Ryan Bowers’ dedication to athletic excellence is a key element to his successful football career. His desire to help others reach or exceed that same level of dedication and excellence embodies the driving force behind the creation of Athelite Academy.
Born in Newport CA and raised in Evans just outside Augusta GA, Bowers has always had exceptional athletic talent and a desire to constantly perfect his performance. As a student of Greenbrier High School, he participated and excelled not only in football, but track, basketball and baseball. He was the first Greenbrier student to be granted a collegiate athletic scholarship. At Presbyterian College, Bowers played safety and was on the kickoff return team. During his stand out collegiate career he made 240 tackles. During his senior year alone, he recorded 70 tackles, led the SAC with 9 interceptions , 12 pass defenses and finished second in kick return average (27.8 yds/return). In addition, he ranked 3rd in NCAA DII in pass defenses per game, 3rd in interceptions per game and 8th in kick returns per game. He was ranked 3rd in the nation with nine interceptions and ranked 9th in the nation for kickoff returns. He was on Don Hansen’s Football Gazette 1st team All South Region and helped lead the East to victory in the NCAA Div II All –Star Cactus Bowl.
In 2004 Bowers signed with the Indiana Firebirds but soon joined the Orlando Predators in 2005, but was quickly snapped up by the Atlanta Falcons. He then played for Amsterdam of NFL Europe where he participated in World Bowl XIV. He also played 16 games for the Green Bay Blizzard posting 102 tackles and finished 3rd in the league with 10 interceptions. Bowers then returned to the Predators for the 2007 season racking up 62 tackles, picked off 5 passes and returned 17 kick offs for 256 yards.
